This updated third edition explains the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998, which came into force on 01/03/2000. It considers how the requirements of the Act affects those who use information about individuals, both on computerised and paper records.
The first section includes a summary of the major provisions of the 1998 Act, and discusses other UK legislation regulating the use of data. It gives an overview of the practical considerations for businesses to ensure compliance. The second section contains a copy of the 1998 Act, with explanatory annotations which avoids the need to cross refer to other sections of the Act.
