Drafting allows students to master one of the most specialist and refined skills necessary for practicing at the Bar. A barrister must not only be able to draft with absolute clarity and precision, but also use drafting skills effectively for persuasive and tactical purposes. This manual ensures that a student following its progressive structure gains a thorough understanding of best practice when drafting in a variety of situations.

Drafting emphasises pleadings, both because of their importance in civil litigation, and because they provide the best foundation for the learning process. However, many other types of contentious drafting relevant to general practice are also covered.

Each chapter contains numerous examples, and every example is followed by a detailed commentary explaining the draft. Exercises are included throughout the manual, enabling students to practice and develop their skills.
