Professional Conduct underpins the vocational stage of training for the Bar by giving the student an excellent grounding in the principles of professional conduct and the application of those principles to ethical issues often arising in practice. It includes full discussion of the letter and the spirit of the Code of Conduct, together with the full and current text of the Code and annexes issued by the Bar Council.

This manual builds upon students' knowledge of the Code by increasing their understanding of the broader ethical considerations they will have to take into account when working at the Bar today. Common difficulties are identified and guidance is given on the correct approach. Students are encouraged to question the application of the spirit of the Code when the solution to a particular problem cannot be found in any express provisions, and to think carefully about his or her own personal morality to ensure that it does not conflict with their ethical conduct as a barrister.
