Cook on Costs, first published 33 years ago, is well established as a practical and up-to-date guide providing clear and straightforward explanations of all aspects of the remuneration of solicitors and barristers, for every level of reader.

Nobody who wishes to understand the principles and practice of legal costs should be without a copy. This well-established title returns fully updated with a brand new author team.

The 2014 edition was the first edition with Jason Rowley and Simon Middleton at the editorial helm. This coincided with the significant procedural amendments introduced in April 2013. The combination of these factors provided the impetus to restructure and rewrite the text where appropriate.

The 2015 text continues in that vein, with substantial revision of the chapters on Children and Protected Parties and Family Law Proceedings. In addition the text has been updated to reflect the 'growing pains' of the 2013 Civil Procedure Rule amendments - commenting on the emerging authorities and, where there is no authority and no clear procedure, offering practical experience of how the rules are being implemented and applied.

As with the 2014 edition, the editors have sought to bring to the text their own modern and accessible tone as well as to provide a practical commentary rather than a mere recitation of rules and theoretical law.

As always, the aim of the text is to explain as well as inform, with liberal illustrations from decided cases. Where there have been no decisions in key areas, the editors have not shied away from expressing their own views in an attempt to offer clear practical guidance.
