The primary purpose of this book remains to assist students of occupational health and safety law. It will also prove useful to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in other fields who have an interest in this area and is a valuable reference book for practitioners in health and safety and for human resource managers. The text draws heavily on legislation and law reports,but other materials are included where appropriate to develop, explain or comment on the essential legal materials.

This second edition retains the style and purpose of the first edition. However, substantial changes have been made, both to improve the presentation of the material to better advantage and to incorporate the many changes in the law that have occurred in the brief period that has passed since the first edition was published. Accident prevention and accident compensation are both covered and the respective roles of the criminal and civil law in encouraging the operation of safe systems in the workplace are also dealt with.

Within these themes, the roles of the European Union, the UK Parliament and European and UK courts of law are considered.
