On July 221963 Stephen Ward stood trial at the Old Bailey, charged with living on the earnings of prostitution. His trial attracted great attention since it was held at the height of the Profumo scandal, and many: of the principal witnesses - Christine Keeler, Mandy Rice-Davies, Ronna Ricardo, and Ward himself- , were already well known to the general public.

This book is an eye-witness account of the trial, with frank comments on the judge, jury, and counsel. The author adds 'If on occasions the book is now rather more vehement than 1 had intended, that is because 1 had not bargained on seeing justice miscarry before my eyes'.
