Each year the European Community enacts over 5000 items of secondary legislation and issues around 1000 consultative or duscussion documents on proposed legislation. Over the same period the European Court delivers opinions or gives judgement in some 400 cases. In addition, many articles appear in English language journals and the UK press. The EC Brief is a 4-page weekly newsletter containing references to legislation, proposed legislation, implementing SIs, cases before the European Court, competition notifications, amongst other things, as published in the Official Journal of the European Communities.;The work is a comprehensive index to European Community materials and is especially useful for those companies that do not subscribe to the Official Journal. To complement the newsletter, the department operates an Enquiry Line for subscribers. The in-house database is updated daily.
