This is the last edition of the Directory to be published.
The Directory of Local Authorities is a database of information about local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland, particularly for those involved in conveyancing searches, together with related information concerning conveyancing fees/charges and land registration.
Part 1 contains information about the London boroughs, metropolitan authorities, county councils, unitary authorities and district councils of England (including those with city, royal borough or borough status) and the county councils and county boroughs of Wales. The Directory contains similar information regarding Scottish councils, although, of course, all searches are made in the Register of Sasines in Edinburgh.
Authorities may be located in a number of ways. If the relevant district is known, it may be accessed directly by name; if not then the appropriate authority can be found using the indexes or the Gazetteer in Part 2. This contains 25,000 place names of parishes, cities, towns, villages and other smaller identifiable places.
The Directory also contains the names and addresses of a number of other types of organisations which practitioners may wish to contact in Parts 3-14.
