War Crimes Trials: Volume 3
The trial of Captain Gozawa Sadaichi and nine others was the first British War Crimes Trial to be held in the Far East, and this factor alone would render the case of particular interest, establishing as it did. a precedent for subsequent trials in that theatre.
It was the trial of ten officers, N.C.Os. and men of the Japanese- Army, the staff of a P.O.W. camp, for a series of shocking atrocities perpetrated against Indian prisoners of war as a result of which several of them died.
The trial opened in Singapore on 21st January, 1946, and lasted for eleven days, resulting in one death sentence, seven sentences of imprisonment, and two acquittals.
