Provides practitioners with all they need to know about the major changes in the law brought about by the Family Law Act 1996. It includes the general principles underlying the new divorce law, the new ""no-fault"" divorce law in practice, mediation - meaning and procedure, financial provision - new interim orders and pension arrangments, amendments to the Children Act, precedents for applications for the new orders and the appeals procedure.

The second half of the book is a comprehensive analysis of the new law relating to domestic violence and occupation of the home. This part of the guide explains the meaning of the new orders, who can apply for them, the tests for the orders, enforcement procedures, how to protect children by excluding suspected abusers from the home and the appeals procedures.
