This volume is a reprint of my Digest 4I, I & 2 Translation and Commentary (OUP 1922) combined with a reprint of the standard (Mommsen-Kruger) Latin text of the two titles as it stands in Holland and Shadwell's Select Titles from the Digest of Justnian. There was no need to touch either the Latin text or Holland and Shadwell's summaries and footnotes.
I have corrected a few obvious mistakes in my translation and commentary, and Mr. A. M. Walton of Hertford College has kindly brought the references to Girard's Manuel and Buckland's Textbook into conformity with their latest editions -the eighth of Girard and the second of Buckland.
My Preface of 1922 has been omitted. There I pointed out that the commentary was intended to meet an educational need and not as a work of research. I also expressed the gratitude which I felt and still feel for their assistance to the late Professor Buckland and my colleagues of the short-lived Oxford Digest Society.
