Preface
In this, the first edition since Judge Charlesworth's death, I have retained the basic order in which the principles of Company Law were dealt with in previous editions - an order which I have found to be perhaps the best in which to teach the subject. And, although in places I have rewritten it and rearranged it, I have retained a great deal of the content of the sixth edition.

I have borne in mind the fact that this is a students' book. Thus, and students should appreciate this at least, wherever new material was introduced, I tried to effect a corresponding reduction in the material elsewhere in the book. For example, feeling that Statutory Companies do not at the present time merit twenty pages in a book of this size, I have reduced them to six or so pages....
