The effects of exposure of the human body to electromagnetic fields and the restrictions required regarding such exposure, are issues of current concern. The main purpose of this conference was to provide an objective overview of the current state of knowledge, research and legislation on the interaction of electromagnetic fields and the human body. It includes consideration of EM fields caused by transmissions from low frequencies and power transmissions at mains frequency, through to radio wave transmissions at UHF and VHF and microwave emissions of up to 300 GHs.;The papers under ""basic physics - scientific fundamentals"" were - applications in the electromagnetic spectrum and the physical interaction of electromagnetic fields with people. ""Effects on the human body and on health"" covered - biological effects of electromagnetic fields and radiation, and the epidemiology of electromagnetic field exposure. ""Guidelines and standards for exposure"" dealt separately with frequencies up to 100kHz and those in the range 100kHz - 300GHz. Finally, ""measurement of fields and hazard assessment"" discussed - measurement techniques, numerical modelling in dosimetry of EM fields and the practical interpretation of measurements and hazard assessment.
