The New Engineering Contract (the NEC form) was recommend by the Latham Report as the preferred form of contract for both building and engineering work. However, it is only in the last few years that the contract has taken off and larger numbers of clients and developers have considered using the form. It is now being used increasingly for public sector work as well as by private clients.

Most building clients and their advisors are familiar with JCT Contracts and the standard method of procuring traditional building work. The NEC form offers some radical new concepts and methods of procurement, and this book has therefore been written to explain the NEC by comparing it to JCT, highlighting the similarities and differences using a topic based approach.
